Special Agent Nick Jacobellis of the U. S. Customs Service assembled a unique undercover operation during the “Miami Vice” era of The Drug War. While using a fleet of rented aircraft and a cadre of contract pilots and sources of information, Agent Jacobellis and his team went undercover as drug smugglers, for the purposes of executing a number of high risk “controlled deliveries.”
Agents infiltrated smuggling organizations by offering the transportation services necessary to "smuggle" large shipments of drug contraband into the United States. They became known as The Blade Runner Squadron: a collection of social outcasts, eccentrics, convicted felons, airline pilots, war heroes and a smuggler who never got caught.
In four years of operation, The Blade Runner Squadron was responsible for seizing over 21,000 pounds of cocaine, 11,000 pounds of marijuana, $3 million dollars in trafficker funds (drug money) and the arrest of 70 drug smugglers.
The true story of Controlled Delivery, a secret for over two decades, is finally being told. This book has been authorized for publication by the U.S. Customs Service.
