We are saddened to announce the recent death of retired HSI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Joesph “Joe” Love who retired from HSI Newark and had also served at HSI New York.
A memorial service for Joe was held on November 1 and he was buried on November 2.
JOSEPH SOLOMON LOVE passed away on October 19, 2024, leaving a legacy of love, wisdom, and deep connection with those fortunate to know him. Born on June 22, 1959, in New York City to his parents Alma and Joseph, Joseph was known lovingly as "Joe". He grew up in a close-knit family, fostering strong family ties that became central to his life and values.
Joseph earned his Bachelor's degree in Sociology from Hunter College, setting a foundation for a lifetime of public service. Joseph began his government career at the Social Security Administration, later transitioning into federal law enforcement with the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS). He was promoted within INS to Supervisory Special Agent, and with the creation of the Department of Homeland Security, he rose to Assistant Special Agent in Charge with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).
While Joe's career was remarkable, his greatest joy came from his deep bonds with those closest to him. As the eldest son, he took his role seriously, always watching over his parents, with a fierce love and protective spirit. His life with his wife, Tawana, was built on mutual respect, laughter, and devotion, a partnership rich in shared experiences. His daughter, Raenelle, was the light of his life; their 'Daddy and Daughter Days' were cherished moments filled with talks about dreams, family, and future aspirations, where Joseph encouraged her to embrace life with confidence and purpose. Joe was also the big brother his siblings could always rely on, sharing his steadfast support, humor, and wisdom. Known for his genuine care and honesty, he formed lifelong bonds with friends and family alike, who were drawn to his warmth, insight, and unwavering generosity.
A man of diverse passions, his interests spanned across investing, music, film, and collecting cars to name a few, but above all, his family. His connection to the culture of his youth was deep; he even DJ'd parties with his brother and sister during the advent of hip-hop in the Bronx.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Alberta, as well as his siblings, Karen and Jeffrey. Joseph is survived by his wife, Tawana; his daughter, Raenelle; his parents, Alma and Eugene; his brother, Darin; his sister, Tanya; his nieces and nephews, Kennidy, Darien, Dalavon, and Darius; as well as a host of cousins, extended family, chosen family, and countless friends.
