James F. Scott III, 71 of Marshfield passed away on August 20th after a short battle with cancer.
He was the most loving and incredible Father to his 3 daughters and Papa to his Grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter Alison (Scott) Joyce and husband James Joyce of Duxbury, his daughter Kristin (Scott) Ezekiel and husband Marc Ezekiel of Duxbury and youngest daughter Tara (Scott) Potter and her husband Erik Potter of Cohasset. He was a doting Papa to his 7 Grandchildren: Dylan (21), Emerson (8), Benjamin (7), Presley (7), James (5), Ireland (4) and Hudson (4).
He was the beloved son of the late James F. Scott II and Marie T. Scott of Marshfield and Norwood. He is survived by his sister Sheila (Scott) Gagnon of Marshfield and Maureen (Scott) Callaghan and brother in-law William Callaghan of Marshfield. He has 2 nephews, 3 nieces, 2 grandnephews and 1 grandniece who loved their Uncle Jimbo dearly.
Jimbo, his nickname since his early years, grew up in West Roxbury and moved to Norwood for High School but was always a summer kid in the Rexhame Beach village of Marshfield. He graduated from Norwood High School, Class of 69' and went off to Norwich University in Vermont where he received his Bachelor's Degree in 1974 and met the best of friends. Jim met the mother of his children, Marion C Scott of Marshfield in 1974 while working at Logan Airport. They wed in 1976 and started their family in Marshfield.
He began his career with the US Government starting with US Border Patrol in Calexico, California. He then transferred to Boston, Massachusetts and held the positions of Customs Patrol Officer, Customs Inspector and Customs Special Agent. During his time as a Federal Special Agent he became a skilled Investigator and was responsible for some of the largest drug smuggling cases in the history of the Customs Service. He later became a Supervisor of the drug smuggling unit and showed his leadership qualities by overseeing and leading this group to many significant cases that were successful in dismantling drug smuggling organizations. Jim received many awards for his accomplishments including the Department of Justice Outstanding Achievement Award. Jim retired in 2001 from the Federal Government and went on to another career with the State of Massachusetts, Criminal Justice Training Council where he retired in 2012.
He enjoyed his time in retirement by sitting on "The River" at his home in Green Harbor, watching his beloved Boston sports teams, annual trips with his college buddies and Nantucket get-a-ways with his best friend and brother, Jack Keefe. He had frequent lunch meet ups with retired Agents (Timmy McGrath, Dennis Kelly and Rick Schuh) and many Daddy Daughter date nights with his 3 girls. Aside from his outstanding professional career, his most proud accomplishments were his daughters and their families. He talked to his daughters daily offering encouragement, unconditional love and friendship.
Visiting Hours will be held at MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield on Wednesday, August 24th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 25th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ann by the Sea Parish Church, 591 Ocean Street in Marshfield, followed by a burial in the Couch Memorial Cemetery, Union Street in Marshfield.
