Kenneth (Ken) J. Kilroy, who retired from U.S. Customs as the Deputy Special Agent in Charge, Seattle, WA in 2001, passed away on August 21, 2022 after a long fight with Leukemia.

Ken passed away peacefully surrounded by his children and his wife Margaret (Peggy) Kilroy. Ken would have been 77 in November of this year. Ken and his wife Peggy had just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary a few days before his passing. Peggy felt Ken hung on to life long enough for them to be able to reach their Golden Anniversary together for which she is ever thankful.

Ken served in the U.S. Navy, and then went on to be a successful businessman. He had always wanted to be in Federal law enforcement and in 1977, he was hired as a Special Agent with U.S. ATF in the Chicago field office. In 1983, Ken transferred to U.S. Customs as a Special Agent, moving to San Diego, CA. In 1986 Ken was selected for a promotion and moved to the office of the Assistant Regional Commissioner (Enforcement) in Los Angeles as a Senior Program manager. In 1990, Ken was selected for a position in Headquarters, where he became the Customs representative to the Office of National Drug Policy (ONDCP), working for Drug Czar Dr. William Bennett. In 1995 Ken transferred to Seattle, WA where he became the Deputy Special Agent in Charge, a position he held until his retirement in 2001. Ken received numerous awards and accolades for his outstanding accomplishments during his Customs career. Following retirement, Ken was elected to the city council of Sammamish, WA, where they lived. Later, Ken served a term as Mayor of Sammamish.

Ken is survived by his wife of 50 years, Margaret (Peggy) Kilroy, and 3 daughters, Carrie who is a Commander in the U.S. Coast Guard and twins Elizabeth and Erin who are successful businesswomen who along with their husbands and children, live in the Seattle area.

A private family funeral was held for Ken following his passing. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held in the Seattle area later this year, details of which will be announced in the near future.
